3-Day Easy Wayanad Itinerary – Temples, Caves, Waterfalls & Banasura Dam

Wayanad Tea Estate in the Morning Mist.

Wayanad is a land of misty hills, ancient caves, quiet temples, and scenic plantations. This relaxed 3-day itinerary lets you experience some of the most beautiful and well-known places in the region without rushing. Your base can be The Hundred House, a restored 140-year-old British plantation bungalow surrounded by tea estates, pepper vines, and birds. Day 1 – Arrival and Temple Visit Arrive in Wayanad and check into your stay by afternoon. Take some time to relax and enjoy the plantation surroundings. Walk around the estate, listen to birds in the trees, and take in the fresh mountain air. In the evening, visit Thirunelli Temple, one of the most sacred temples in Kerala. Surrounded by forested hills, the temple has a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful stone architecture. On the way back, stop at a local tea shop for Kerala tea and snacks like pazham pori. Return to The Hundred House for a calm evening and dinner overlooking the hills. Day 2 – Edakkal Caves and Banasura Dam Start the morning with a drive to Edakkal Caves. A short uphill trek leads to the cave, where prehistoric carvings believed to be thousands of years old are etched into the rock walls. The carvings include human figures, animals, and mysterious symbols from ancient civilizations. After the visit, have lunch at a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, head to Banasura Sagar Dam, one of the most iconic landmarks in the region. The huge reservoir surrounded by green hills creates a spectacular landscape, and visitors can enjoy walking along the dam or taking a speed boat ride. Return to your stay in the evening and relax. Day 3 – Waterfall and Plantation Walk Begin the day with a slow morning and breakfast. Later, visit Soochipara Falls, a beautiful three-tier waterfall hidden inside thick forest. A short walk through the trees leads to the falls where you can enjoy the cool mist and sound of rushing water. Spend the rest of the day exploring plantation roads or relaxing in the garden at your stay. After lunch, begin your journey back with the quiet memory of Wayanad’s hills and forests. Travel Tip Wayanad has many hidden forest trails and rock inscription sites, but some of them are deep inside plantation or forest areas and may not be suitable for all visitors. It’s always best to explore such places with local guidance. Where to Stay? The Hundred House A 140-year-old British plantation bungalow located in Tourimala, Wayanad. The house features red oxide floors, fireplaces, large halls, and sweeping views of surrounding tea estates and hills. It offers a peaceful heritage stay experience close to many of Wayanad’s major attractions.
